Cock-A-Chon Puppies for Sale

Curly coated and endlessly cheerful

A sporting dog crossed with a companion dog

The Cock-A-Chon pairs a Cocker Spaniel with a Bichon Frise. It is a cross between two very different jobs. Cocker Spaniels were bred to flush and retrieve game birds, which means stamina, a strong desire to work with a person, and a nose that stays busy. Bichons were bred purely to be company, and they bring a lighter frame, a curling low-shedding coat, and an outgoing streak.

The middle ground is usually a small-to-medium dog with a soft wavy or curly coat, long ears, and an appetite for both a walk and a nap.

Energy level

This is the practical question with any spaniel cross, and the honest answer is that it depends which parent the puppy takes after. Expect somewhere between the two: more activity than a pure companion breed, less than a working spaniel.

A good default is a decent daily walk plus a play session and something to think about. Cockers are retrievers at heart, so fetch tends to land well. So does a scent game where you hide treats around a room and let the dog work the problem out.

Both parent breeds are people-focused, and neither does well parked alone all day. Build tolerance for alone time gradually from the first week home.

Grooming a curly, feathered coat

A Cock-A-Chon coat generally combines Bichon curl with Cocker length and feathering, and it needs consistent work. Brush and comb three or four times a week, section by section down to the skin, and book professional grooming every four to six weeks.

Feathering on the legs and belly picks up grass, sand, and burrs, so a quick check after outdoor time saves you a matted mess later. Keep the hair around the eyes trimmed and the paw pads tidy.

Those ears

Both parents contribute long, heavy drop ears with hair in and around them, which means air moves through less freely. Make ear care part of the weekly routine: look inside, keep the hair around the opening trimmed, and dry the ears properly after swimming or a bath. In Florida humidity this is worth being consistent about.

Training

Cocker heritage means a dog that wants to work with you, which makes training genuinely enjoyable. Reward-based methods suit both parent breeds; heavy-handed correction suits neither, since sensitivity runs in both lines.

Focus early on loose-leash walking, a reliable recall, and calm greetings, because an enthusiastic spaniel-type greeting can knock a drink over.
