We had an amazing experience with Blue Sky Puppies! Jessica was absolutely wonderful. She was patient, kind, and answered all of our questions throughout the process. She even put a note on Ace’s kennel letting the staff know he was waiting for his family and texted me to let me know he’d be waiting for us. That personal touch meant so much. We brought home a sweet, calm, healthy Havapoo, and our family couldn’t be happier. Thank you, Jessica, for making this such a special experience!

Excellent experience. From the first moment they were very friendly and answered all our questions. The puppy arrived clean, healthy and well cared for. You can see that they care about the well-being of their dogs and finding them a good home. The process was clear and professional, and they made us feel confident with our decision. Meet Crew the Multi-poo!🐾 This place was clean and Dana was great! The whole process of adopting this sweet little guy was seamless. Blue sky reached out to us multiple times after to check on him to make sure he was good and adjusting. I waited to make this review after having had him for two weeks to make sure he was the best puppy ever like I thought that he was. He is healthy. He is already potty, trained, smart energetic. We couldn’t be happier with this new addition to our family. Thanks again, blue sky puppies. Shout out to Dana for being so sweet to my family and giving us extra time to make sure he was the one. I would highly recommend this place to find your new family member.

Australian Shepherd (All Sizes) Puppies For Sale

We are open today! Come visit our beautiful variety of all sizes of Australian Shepherd puppies we have for sale at Blue Sky Puppies!

The same dog, at three scales

This page brings the Australian Shepherd sizes we carry together in one place: standard, mini, and toy.

A note on names is worth having up front, because the labels can be confusing. The standard Australian Shepherd is a long-established breed recognized by the American Kennel Club. The smaller version has been recognized separately by the AKC as the Miniature American Shepherd. Toy-sized Aussies are bred down further and are not a recognized size division. What all of them share is ancestry, appearance, and, crucially, temperament.

Where the breed actually comes from

Despite the name, the Australian Shepherd was developed in the western United States. The Australian connection is indirect, coming through Basque shepherds who arrived in America by way of Australia with their dogs.

What matters is the job: this is a herding breed, selected on ranches for stamina, intelligence, and an intense working focus. That is the dog you are getting in every size.

Drive does not scale down

The most useful thing to know before choosing a size is that breeding an Aussie smaller reduces the body, not the brain. A toy Australian Shepherd can be as busy, as watchful, and as demanding of a job as a standard one.

Plan for real daily exercise and, more importantly, real mental work in every size. Training sessions, puzzle feeders, scent games, a new trick each week, and walks that allow time to investigate. An unoccupied Aussie of any size will find something to do, and it is rarely what you had in mind.

Herding instinct at home

Aussies watch movement and want to control it. That can show up as circling, chasing, or nipping at heels, particularly around running children, cyclists, or other pets. It is instinct, not aggression, and the fix is management and redirection rather than punishment: teach the dog to fetch a toy when it gets excited, reward calm around movement, and interrupt the pattern early.

Aussies are also naturally reserved with strangers and quick to alert. Early, sustained socialization makes an enormous difference to how an adult handles new people and places.

Coat, in all sizes

Every size carries the same medium-length weather-resistant double coat with feathering on the legs and a fuller ruff around the neck. Brush thoroughly once or twice a week and more during the heavy shedding periods, using a slicker and an undercoat rake.

This is a shedding breed, and no size changes that. In Florida and Tennessee summers, exercise in the cool hours and give the dog shade, water, and air conditioning. Do not shave the double coat.

Choosing between them

Standards need the most space and the most physical outlet. Minis fit more households while keeping the working temperament. Toys need less distance and a little care around furniture, but exactly the same enrichment.

Compare each on its own: standard, mini, and toy.
