That cotton coat
The Coton’s coat is the breed’s signature: long, profuse, and soft, with a texture genuinely closer to cotton than to the silky coats of most other small white breeds. It is a single coat rather than a double one, which is why it feels so light.
It also tangles, and the tangles hide. Brush and comb thoroughly several times a week, working in sections so you get down to the skin rather than skating across the top. A metal comb is essential, because a brush alone will pass over a mat forming underneath.
Many owners keep the coat in a shorter clip, which suits the Florida climate and makes daily care much simpler. If you prefer the full coat, plan on professional grooming every four to six weeks and near-daily brushing at home. Either way, keep the face and eye area wiped and the feet trimmed.
