The Cavachonpoo, also known as the Cavapoochon, is a designer breed of dog. It is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Bichon Frise mix breed (also known as the Cavachon) with a toy or miniature poodle tribrid or “triple cross.” Therefore, they are 25% Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, 25% Bichon Frise, and 50% Poodle. They are known as “the dog that never grows old” because they maintain their puppy face features as they age. 

Physical characteristics include, curly or wavy hair, floppy ears, a thick fleece coat, and big round eyes, all of which contribute to the Cavachonpoo’s teddy bear look. One common coat color is red with white markings, but other coat colors include red, cream, black, sable, white and apricot, black and white, and tri-colored black, tan and white. Cavachonpoos with wavy hair resemble the Cavachon parent while those with curly hair resemble the poodle parent. They are an extremely popular triple cross breed in the United Kingdom and their popularity is growing quickly in the United States. The Cavachonpoo triple cross breed is not recognized by the United Kingdom Kennel Club or the American Kennel Club (AKC). Because the Cavachonpoo is a designer breed that is not recognized by the AKC, standards for the breed have not been established yet.

The Cavachonpoo is very similar to the Cavachon, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Bichon Frise mix breed, and the Cavapoo, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Poodle mix breed. The primary difference between the Cavachonpoo and the Cavachon or Cavapoo is that the Cavachonpoo is more hypoallergenic and non-shedding so that they would be great in a home with anyone who suffers from allergies.

Cavachonpoos are a small breed dog that usually weigh between 12 pounds and 15 pounds, but a male can weigh up to 20 pounds. They are small to medium sized dogs usually 12 to 13 inches tall or the size of a small Cocker Spaniel. Their life expectancy is 12 to 15 years. They are said to be a healthy breed because they have a combination of the best genetic traits of the Cavalier King Charles, Bichon Frise, and Miniature Poodle breeds. This is a great breed for those who suffer from allergies because their fleece coats are hypoallergenic. Another bonus feature of the Cavachonpoo is that they do not shed.

Cavachonpoos are very intelligent and eager to please, which makes them easy to train. They respond well to positive reinforcement, such as treats, praise, and attention. Training sessions should be a positive experience for both your puppy and you. Because they are very social dogs, socialization where they learn to approach other people or dogs safely and appropriately is essential. Since they are an intelligent breed, training sessions should include various activities to keep them interested, engaged, mentally stimulated. 

Mixed breed dogs are generally healthier than their purebreed cousins because the recessive genes for health problems from the parent breeds are buried. As a mixed breed, the Cavachonpoo  will inherit the best characteristics of each parent breed. 

The Cavachonpoo is a recent creation of a designer breed. Linda and Steve Rogers first developed this tribrid breed at Timshell Farm in Texas. Because this is a new designer breed, there is no significant breed history to report.

A good way to understand what your Cavachonpoo will be like is to take a look at the parent breeds. In the case of the Cavachonpoo, the parent breeds are the Cavachon and a Toy or Miniature Poodle.

The Cavachon is also a new designer breed. It’s a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Bichon Frise. The Cavachon is 12 to 13 inches tall, weighs 15 to 35 pounds, and has a lifespan of 10 to 15 years. This designer breed was developed in 1996 in North America. They are a small, companion, lap dog, who is described as “spunky and full of fun.” Coat colors for the Cavachon include cream, white, and pied. Their coats are usually a combination of different colors. They are moderately active and intelligent dogs. This is also a very social breed that is good with children, other dogs, and cats. As small dogs, they can adapt to whatever living situation you have whether it’s an apartment or a large house with a yard. 

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a small, companion dog. They are 12 to 14 inches tall, weigh 13 to 18 pounds, and have a life expectancy of 9 to 15 years. This breed was developed less than a century ago. However, they are the descendents of the toy spaniels depicted in paintings since the sixteenth century by artists, such as Van Dyk and Gainsborough. They were a popular breed among royalty and nobility in England. The name of the breed comes from King Charles II of England, who was always seen surrounded by at least two or three of these little dogs. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is described as affectionate, intelligent, playful, friendly, and fiercely loyal to its human family. This is a very social breed who gets along well with children, other dogs, and cats. This is also an adaptable breed that can adapt well to apartment living. 

The Bichon Frise is also a small, companion breed. They are 9 to 11 inches tall, weigh 7 to 12 pounds, and have a lifespan of 12 to 15 years. There is disagreement about the origin of this breed. Some  believe that the Bichon Frise is a descendent of the Barbet, which is a medium-sized, wooly water dog. The Bichon Frise is in the Barbichon dog family, which originated in the Mediterranean. The earliest records of the Bichon Frise come from the 14th century. It’s thought that the Bichon Frise originated in Italy. It is also thought that French Sailors found the Bichon Frise in Tenerife, which is one of the Canary Islands and brought it home with them. Others believe Spanish sailors brought the dogs from Tenerife and that Italian sailors brought them to the European continent. The Bichon Frise quickly became a favorite breed among the royal families. The breed was brought to the United States in 1956. They are described as cheerful, affectionate, playful, and intelligent. While they are active dogs, they can adapt to living in an apartment provided they get the exercise, play, and mental stimulation they require. 

The Poodle is a popular, purebred dog known for its beauty, elegance, and intelligence. They are companion dogs that are 10 to 22 inches tall, weigh 6 to 70 pounds, and their lifespan is 12 to 15 years. The variability in height and weight occurs because of the different sizes of the breed, which are toy, miniature, and standard. The Poodle has a very long history; however, there is disagreement as to where the breed originated. It is known that the Poodle is one of the oldest breeds specifically developed for hunting waterfowl. It is generally agreed that the breed originated in Germany, but it was developed into the breed we now know in France. Some believe the breed is a mix of different European water dogs. Others believe that they developed from the North African Barbet. Still others believe the Poodle is a descendent of Asian herding dogs. The Poodle is known as “intelligent, loving, loyal, and mischievous.” As an intelligent, playful, and eager to please breed, they are highly trainable. They respond best to positive reinforcement consisting of treats, praise, and attention. The poodle is a good watchdog because they are protective of their family. They will warn their human parents of any strangers that approach their home by barking. While they are very affectionate with the family, they may need some time before becoming friendly with new people.

The Cavachonpoo, a lap dog, is known to have a wonderful, cheerful temperament. They are described as gentle, friendly, affectionate, and playful. They are very social and they love attention from their human family as well as anyone they come across. They are a great family pet because they are good with children, other dogs, and cats. Because they become very attached to their human family, they are not a breed that can be left alone for extended periods of time. They are happiest when they can join their human family in whatever activity or outing as part of the family. 

However, they can be vocal dogs barking whenever someone is at the door or when they see small animals, like squirrels and rabbits. Training when they are puppies will decrease the likelihood of developing unwanted behaviors, such as excessive barking. However, it is also said that they are not yappy or loud barkers. While they are not especially protective and they are not an aggressive breed, they are good watchdogs as they would bark to alert their human parents whenever they hear, smell, or see something unusual approach the home.

Socialization should begin early in puppyhood. While this breed is social and eager to please, they can also be excitable. Therefore, exposing your puppy to various people, such as family members, neighbors, and visitors to your home, new situations, sights, and sounds when it is a puppy will ensure a well-behaved adult dog who is not excessively fearful or timid around strange people and places. 

The Cavachonpoo is a small dog so that they can adapt well to apartment living provided they get the exercise and mental stimulation they require. On the other hand, they are active and friendly dogs so that they would benefit from a home with a large yard or a country home with a lot of property. Regardless of the size of your home or property, the Cavachonpoo will adapt to its living environment. It’s more important for the Cavachonpoo to be near its human family.  

Cavachonpoos have a thick, fleece coat that requires regular brushing and bathing to maintain their fluffy, silky fur. They should be brushed at least two times a week to avoid knots and matts. Because they do not shed, their hair will also need to be trimmed regularly. 

Because they have floppy ears and hair grows in their ears, it’s important to ensure their ears remain clean and dry. It’s a good idea to check their ears periodically and clean them with a damp towel (careful that nothing is put into the ear canal) to avoid infection or irritation.

It’s also a good idea to begin brushing your Cavachonpoo’s teeth when they are puppies so that they get accustomed to this routine. Their teeth should be brushed every couple of days with toothpaste and toothbrushes appropriate for dogs. Regular teeth brushing will minimize bad breath, but it will also prevent dental problems that can be problematic for your dog's overall health. The nails should be trimmed one to two times a month. If you can hear his nails clicking on a hard floor, you will know that his nails are too long and they need to be trimmed. 

The Cavachonpoo is described as an “energetic and excitable dog.” Regular walks and play time is essential to maintain their health and happiness. They require moderate exercise including at least 45 minutes of walking and play sessions, such as fetch. They are also intelligent dogs so they also require mental stimulation. They are also known for their agility and active mind. Interactive toys are recommended to provide mental stimulation. As very social dogs, they would appreciate walks through your neighborhood to socialize with neighbors and other dogs.

You should feed your Cavachonpoo a high quality food appropriate for small dogs and for the correct lifestage (puppy, adult, senior). Two or three small meals a day is recommended for Cavachonpoos under 10 pounds. Three to four small meals a day are recommended for Cavachonpoos over 10 pounds. It is recommended to have measured meals for your dog rather than to leave food out all day for it to munch on even though this breed is not known to easily gain extra weight.
